To the ladies out there who have been wondering “where can I find cute stylish everyday clothes that are eco-friendly?” — we have your answer: SHE-BIBLE!!!

While perusing Ecofabulous the other day, I made a sustainable style discovery that rocked my world.She-Bible is a San Francisco design duo of Deirdre O’Boyle and Stacy Rodgers, who make gorgeously simple, wearable and stylish organic wardrobe staples such as sweatshirts, skirts, jackets and puffy-sleeved tops that exemplify casual eco-chic, and also won’t break the bank.

the deal is to hit the *sale* section … good stuff like the Paisley Mini (in black), was $90, now $15. Snap it up!
I guess gals are used to paying more for a sweatshirt, as the one pictured above (with Superman-style wide neck crew) will run ya $120… ouch. But they look comfy as hell, so save your lunch money.

STOP CONSUMING, PERIOD.

Hey woman and you men too… If you want to be eco-friendly and live a sustainable lifestyle, stop consuming so much junk, this includes and is not limited to: (clothes, cars, computers, food, electric, household items, etc.) Stop the “green washing” already. Do you really need that dress, pair of shoes, or lap-top computer anyway????

Michael: Easier said than done. First of all, we live in a society that begins teaching women at birth that they must be beautiful (and we’re talking one hell of a strict standard of beauty here) to be worth attention and consideration. Don’t take my word for it; statistically, women who are rated as less attractive on a scale of traditional beauty standards not only make less money than women rated as beautiful, but they score lower on assessments of self esteem and contentment. We are raised to value our beauty, and frankly, it seems sexist to me for a man to assume that it’s a need that can be so easily switched off. Challenge sexism, racism, and classism before you start pointing fingers at sustainably constructed dresses.

Secondly, the world is riddled with problems (as you know). To deal effectively with the ones that are most urgent to us requires choosing our battles. For instance: you claim that computers are somehow unneeded. Interestingly, as a freelancer, I work from home and am thus able to get around entirely by foot (no cars here). But I do in fact NEED a computer to do that.

Finally, there is an assumption of privilege in your post - that is, that everyone is in a position to (apparently) purchase only healthy food and skip “convenience” appliances (”electric, household items, etc.”). There are many very busy working people in this country who have things to do such as raising and caring for children, providing for their families and loved ones, etc. Spare time is a luxury. Someday, perhaps we can build a society where everyone has the time and financial support to prioritize living a healthy and earth-supportive lifestyle, but we’re not there yet. Baby steps are in order. Finger pointing is not.
